After obsessively stalking this website during my two week wait, I am elated to be posting my own BFP story! I have never posted on a message board before but, if my experience can help soothe the nerves of even one woman going through the agonizing wait after an already excruciating IVF process, then I'm happy to share.
I am 31 years old, my husband is 35, and we have been trying to conceive for the past 20 months. We did get pregnant six months into the process but, heartbreakingly, it ended in an early miscarriage. After that, we tried on our own for seven more months and spent two of those cycles on Clomid before, ultimately, ending up with our RE. He promptly diagnosed me with PCOS and discovered I had a uterine septum. My husband was healthy overall but had a borderline sperm count. After undergoing a hysteroscopy to remove the septum, we began our IVF cycle.
We did everything possible to increase our chances for success:
IVF/ICSI/PICSI/PGD
Antagonist protocol (Bravelle, Menopur, Ganirelix)
I did acupuncture in the weeks before the retrieval, before the transfer, and on the day of the transfer.
Because of my high risk of OHSS, I was only given half the dose of the HCG trigger and a "freeze all" was determined before the retrieval. I had 7 eggs retrieved, all 7 fertilized and made it to day 5 blastocysts (I believe this success was largely due to ICSI and PICSI).
5 of the 7 embryos came back from PGD as chromosomally normal - 3 A's, a B, and a C - and all were frozen. The FET was six weeks after the retrieval - we decided to transfer two high quality 5 day blastocysts.
Now for the part I scrutinized on every woman's post on these boards... Symptoms:
First, let me say that I am a teacher and my wait happened to fall during my student's winter break so I was lucky enough to spend all 10 days working very minimally and taking it easy as much as possible. I was on progesterone suppositories twice a day and estrogen three times a day so some of my pregnancy symptoms could have been overlap with the medication.
Symptoms that began very closely after the transfer and currently remain:
Burping... I know, kind of weird - not belching burping but almost like hiccup/burps - it happens constantly... The other symptom that started early on and hasn't gone away is frequent urination.
1dp5dt - 3dp5dt: Bed rest, cramping and pressure in my lower abdomen - different than period cramps, also lots of bloating
4dp5dt - Mild cramping, bloating and watery CM
5dp5dt: mild nausea, bloating, gas, some cramps, slight dizziness, watery CM
6dp5dt: mild nausea, some cramps, watery CM
7dp5dt: mild nausea, mild fatigue, boobs started feeling slightly tender but only for a few hours, watery CM, food aversion to most kinds of sweets began and still persists
8dp5dt: mild nausea, mild fatigue, slightly dizzy at times, slightly tender boobs but, again, only for a few hours
9dp5dt: bloating, cramps but this time it felt more like period cramps - as with many other women on this site, it was a little worrisome but I had read so many posts that said they thought for sure they were getting their period because of the cramps and ended up pregnant so I tried to stay optimistic, yellow CM
10dp5dt: Beta day - honestly, I was so anxious about getting the results (I was somehow able to resist POAS) that all the nervous anxiety masked my pregnancy symptoms - the only thing I noticed was bloating and watery CM
I was elated to get the news that my test results were POSITIVE! My beta was 520... Three days later it was 2,279. We thought for sure it was twins but our first ultrasound at 5 1/2 weeks confirmed one healthy looking pregnancy sack. We are absolutely over the moon!
Something I would like to mention is that my boobs barely hurt through the entire TWW and I am currently 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and they still feel normal. I found this odd because they have hurt in every other cycle I have had since being off birth control pills. Also, though I wasn't exactly bustling with energy, I have not had extreme fatigue. In fact, I often find myself up late or waking up in the middle of the night and being unable to fall back to sleep. I was super paranoid about the lack of breast tenderness and fatigue because they are two symptoms that you read about constantly as tell tale signs of pregnancy... It just goes to show that every body is different and having all the symptoms, a few of them, or none at all doesn't mean much one way or the other... But who can resist scouring the internet just to make sure :)
Best of luck to all you women reading this post and looking for answers the way I did with all the women who posted before me. It's such a tough process and the TWW is like cruel and unusual punishment. Hang in there and I sincerely hope your baby dreams come true!
